Captain Justen’s goal is to help children ages 7-15 obtain the fishing knowledge, boat safety, and gain on water fishing experience. No experience needed but interest of learning about fishing and marine environment.

All kids must know how to swim to sign up for the fishing camp. Lifejackets will be required at all times on the boat and provided by Island Time.

Camp will start promptly at 8:30am each day with pickup taking place at the Willow Lane Boat Ramp in Portsmouth, RI. Pickup will occur at 12:30pm at the same boat ramp location. Campers will learn everything from setting the boat up each day, to catching live bait, to rigging techniques, to pulling traps, and all different methods of fishing. We will spend majority of our days exploring the different areas of Narragansett Bay and on good weather days explore down to Brenton Point area.

We will practice catch and release for all summer camps.

If weather is bad we have an indoor option walking distance from the Boat Ramp to focus on boat safety, gear safety, and rigging lessons. Our goal for repeat students of the fishing camp will be to not only get them ready to catch fish Independently but also get the basic knowledge towards their Boat Safety Challenge Exam. Please note due to insurance, there will be no swimming by students during camp hours.

All gear will be provided by Island Time. If your child wants to get more comfortable on their own gear they are more welcome to bring it for the final day of camp.

We will be using a 28 Contender for all Fishing Camps, this boat has Seakeeper for stability, top electronics and a bathroom on board for comfort.

Additional weeks will be added in 2025 along with fall and spring weekend/after school clinics.

Cost $550 is per child for the weeklong fishing camp. Two children discount to $500 per child. We will run one extended camp (8:30am-2:30) per summer for older ages (11-15) and this camp will cost $750 per child or $700 if more than one child signs up as part of your group.

Snacks & water will be provided each day. All electronics will be collected each morning when the group steps on the boat and placed in a waterproof case, electronics will be returned once the group is back at the dock each day.
